Chairman and CEO of the Lean Enterprise Institute (USA) and Chairman of the Lean Global Network, which unites all the Lean Institutes worldwide, including the LIB. He learned about lean management through his eleven years working for Toyota of Japan, in the USA, helping to transfer production, engineering and management systems from Japan to NUMMI and to other operations around the world.
He was the first American to hold a management position at the Toyota Headquarters in Japan and USA his last position was that of Senior Manager of the Toyota Supplier Support Center, assisting American companies to implement TPS.
He is co-author of the books Learning to See, which presented the concept of value flow mapping to the world, and Kaizen Express, a manual on the essential concepts and tools of TPS. His book Managing to Learn describes the A3 process, which is at the core of lean management and leadership.
